In the Explanatory Note in the Christian Science Quarterly, which is read during the Sunday services in every Christian Science church, is this statement: "The Bible and the Christian Science textbook are our only preachers."Pref.to the Christian Science Quarterly,p.ii This was written by Mrs. Eddy, who says in the second paragraph of the same note, "The canonical writings, together with the word of our textbook, corroborating and explaining the Bible texts in their spiritual import and application to all ages, past, present, and future, constitute a sermon undivorced from truth, uncontaminated and unfettered by human hypotheses, and divinely authorized."
Mrs. Eddy designated the Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," as the only preachers for every Church of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world. So each church has the same preachers at any time, in any place. When we need advice regarding our personal affairs, our work, or our health and happiness, we can go to our preachers—these two books—with assurance that we shall receive not personal opinions but impersonal spiritual truth, counsel which is "divinely authorized."
Christ Jesus once said to his disciples: "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth."John 16:12, 13; In the time of Jesus the healing effects of the Christ were received largely through faith. Human consciousness, which was so largely materialistic, could not understand and accept all of the Science which he demonstrated. However, the Master promised, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."John 14:26;
