Mind-reading and Mind-healing

From the January 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Like the sun radiating energy, the divine Mind, God, is constantly expressing itself in spiritual ideas throughout infinity. Though we may be temporarily limited by our material sense of substance, life, and intelligence, we are capable of gaining spiritual sense with which to discern Mind's perfect ideas. And as we do, we gain the ability to heal mortal ailments.

The counterfeit of divine Mind, the so-called mind of the material senses named mortal mind, imitates God. It sends forth false impressions which hypnotize human beings, making them believe they live in a material universe and that they themselves are material creatures, mortals, subject to the laws of matter and the whims of material personality. All of this it attributes to God who mortal mind says created matter.

When one is ill, he can be healed in Christian Science by waking to the truth. When one realizes that he is actually an idea of Mind, spiritual, not material, and that the universe he lives in is likewise spiritual, he ceases to be influenced by the material illusion. He learns that the disease is unreal. Or perhaps he learns that some mental trait he had been depending upon, such as pride, sensitiveness, egotism, timidity, is an impossibility because all true qualities emanate from perfect Mind. Or he may find that his view of the universe and his place in it is a false one; so he lets go of it and gains in its stead a true view of man reflecting God's dominion over all.
