Christian Science came to our family over sixty years ago through my father's healing of stomach trouble. Shortly after my mother and he were married, Mother became a semi-invalid and spent several years in a sanatorium either bedridden or in a wheelchair. When the doctors could do no more for her, it was decided that my infant brother and I be sent down South to live with our grandmother.
My father had urged my mother many times to try Christian Science, and she had always resisted. However, after three months of separation from her children, so strong was her determination to be with us again that she finally permitted my father to call a practitioner for help in Christian Science.
After three days of treatment my mother was able to board a train bound for the South. However, en route, when she and my father stopped overnight in a hotel, she collapsed from nervous exhaustion and told my father she wasn't sure she could finish the trip. He called the practitioner long-distance and talked to her for about a half hour.
