Understanding Is an Ever-bubbling Spring

From the February 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever been walking in the mountains in summer, hot, weary, and thirsty, and suddenly come upon a clear, sparkling stream? How refreshing it is to take great drafts of the pure water and plunge one's face and arms into the invigorating coolness!

Very likely the wise man who wrote the following proverb lived in a hot country where water was scarce. Because he knew the value of a well or stream fed by a constantly bubbling spring, the words, "Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it,"Prov. 16:22; take on added meaning in showing how vitally important spiritual understanding is to the traveler along life's path.

Christian Science teaches that it is spiritual understanding which puts us in line with infinite Mind and its outpouring of the healing ideas we need for solving today's problems. Mankind desperately needs this unfailing flow of powerful ideas. Many of us may know someone who has a constantly bubbling well of spiritual ideas which he uses to comfort and heal all who come to him for aid.
