Testimonies of Healing
Four years ago I had an illness which increased the size of my body to such abnormal proportions that there was a question in my mind as to whether or not I would recover. Breathing was very difficult, and I was unable to move around.
My four children and I had been attending a certain church for some years, when I was suddenly awakened to the fact that I did not have an understandable knowledge of God. This was brought about by the tragic loss of my dearest friend and her family.
My first healing in Christian Science took place in 1925. A friend, herself a student of Science, had recommended that I take up its study to help a member of my family; but its healing power came to my own attention when I was healed of a severe attack of lumbago.
I was reared in a church that was generous in its attitude toward all religions, yet I allowed myself to believe discrediting statements relative to Christian Science. Then, desiring to further my education in art, I left home to live in a large city.
Christian Science has been the greatest blessing that has come into my life. I was reared in Science and attended Sunday School until the age of twenty.
As a child I was extremely shy and retiring, and as I grew older this condition became more pronounced. In high school I realized I had not made a single friend among my classmates, and after graduation I found myself very lonely and very much afraid of what the future might bring.
At the age of four, as I repeated the Lord's Prayer aloud to a Christian Science practitioner whom my parents had met, I was healed instantaneously of a severe case of scarlet fever. My parents were not Christian Scientists, but the seed of Truth sown in my consciousness at that time sprang up in an earnest desire to attend a Christian Science Sunday School when I was thirteen.
About two years ago I became ill, suffering from a serious condition affecting my back, and I was unable to get out of bed or to move without severe pain. My husband called a Christian Science practitioner for help for me, which was promptly and lovingly given through prayer.
Once, while stationed in a picturesque village in southern Germany, I climbed to the summit of the Kofel, a peak of gray granite, rising three thousand feet above the valley. Thirteen years passed, and in March, 1960, I found myself being discharged from a military hospital having suffered what had been diagnosed as a cardiac infraction.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude for Christian Science. Many experiences of healing have proved to me that Science, when correctly applied to everyday problems, does help us to solve these problems and thus experience more harmony.
