Testimonies of Healing
Four months after I was demobilized after the Second World War, I accepted a post in another town, moving there during the hard winter of 1947. Coal and power were stringently rationed, and my rooms were comfortless.
Truly Christian Science is the promised Comforter! I had known the Lord's Prayer as a child, and I looked to the Bible at an early age for comfort because of an inharmonious condition in our home. Several years later I was led to read Science and Health by Mrs.
I had been a pupil in a Christian Science Sunday School since early childhood, having experienced freedom from the so-called children's diseases and having a very happy life. After my marriage, however, I strayed from the teachings of Science and its practice and for about ten years sought my happiness and well-being in people, places, and things.
At the age of ten I was living in bondage to asthma. Then Christian Science literature was given to my mother, who was expecting a child and had been told that she could never give birth to another child and live.
" This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success" ( Josh. 1:8 ).
My first testimony appeared in the Journal of June, 1954. Since that time I have experienced many further proofs of God's loving care for His children.
" Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" ( John 8:32 ). This statement of Jesus has been proved true in my own experience.
When I left a Christian Science Sunday School at the age of twenty, I might have thanked my teachers in the following words from the Bible ( Ps. 16:6 ): "The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
At one time I made daily trips to a doctor's office for treatments for a back condition that was very painful. There was no improvement; so a bone specialist was asked to see me.
It is indeed a joy to glorify God in the spirit of overflowing gratitude and to glorify Him in relating how Christian Science has brought health and harmony to a body which had been laid low by disease. Twelve years ago, when a mobile X-ray unit was in our town, I was X-rayed and later told that I had active tuberculosis in one lung.
