Testimonies of Healing
When I began the study of Christian Science we were living in the mountains of Mexico, where my husband was employed by a lumber company. I had been ill with typhoid fever just before our baby was born; and though a kind and conscientious doctor had done all that he could to help me, I did not regain strength and found it very difficult to do the housework and care for the baby.
" Happy is that people, whose God is the Lord" ( Ps. 144:15 ).
At the age of twelve I, with my mother, two sisters, and a brother, was baptized in an orthodox church, for which I worked faithfully and conscientiously for many years. But experiencing much sickness in my family and losing several loved ones, I became discouraged and uninterested in religion and gradually drifted away from the church, feeling that there must be something more definite in religion than what I was getting from it.
I had the great privilege of being brought up in a home in which Christian Science had been accepted as the truth before I was born. My eldest brother, then a child, lay gravely ill with pneumonia.
My life before I found the way in Christian Science was one long period of frustration and unhappiness. Because of an unhappy marriage I felt like a trapped animal, and I searched continually for either a way out of my difficulties or an understanding which would be the means of accepting them.
I shall never cease to be grateful to the dear friend who first presented Christian Science to me more than thirty years ago. After reading the chapter on Prayer in Science and Health by Mrs.
I could never adequately put into words my deep gratitude to God for the wonderful gift of Christian Science and especially for copies of the Christian Science periodicals which I took from a distribution box in a bus terminal and which led me to accept this inspiring religion. Since that time, my husband, my mother, and I have had the spiritual peace and joy that come with church membership, and the children have had the sustaining influence of the Christian Science Sunday School.
In Deuteronomy we read ( 32:10 ), "He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. " Sixteen years ago I was a man in a "waste howling wilderness.
When our daughter was a few weeks old, I noticed that one of her eyes kept watering. When the condition did not yield to the prayerful work which my husband and I did, we called a Christian Science practitioner for help.
Christian Science is much more than just a religion; it is the way of Life. My wife and I were blessed with Christian Science Sunday School training, and our five children have learned to rely on Science for their every need.
