Being a college student, I find opportunities...

From the January 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Being a college student, I find opportunities each day to put into practice what I have learned in Christian Science. My religion has guided me in both my academic and my social activities. I have had many wonderful demonstrations which prove the truths taught in Science.

I am reminded of a time when influenza broke out on the campus. I did not watch my thinking as a sincere Scientist should. My studies were keeping me up late each night, and as I spent more time on my academic work and less time on my study of Science, I let my guard down and allowed room in my consciousness for an imperfect concept of man. I accepted the thought of influenza that was so prevalent, and shortly afterward I became ill.

I realized I could not carry on my work as I should with this condition. So I studied thoroughly the Lesson-Sermon, set out in the Quarterly, knowing that the healing truth I needed was somewhere in it. In doing so, I came upon a Bible passage that mentions several things which are an abomination unto the Lord. One of these is "a lying tongue" (Prov. 6:17).
