In the Bible is the beautiful story of the child Samuel, whose receptivity to Truth is a continual challenge to us all. "Speak; for thy servant heareth," he said to the Lord (I Sam. 3:10), as with perfect confidence in the surety of God's guidance he began his mission of service to Israel.
"Speak; for thy servant heareth." It is always to the listening, receptive thought that God's Word brings healing and joy. Too often we pray quite differently from Samuel. Too often we demand that God listen to us: "Hear; for thy servant speaketh"; and in the loneliness of fear and doubt, we fail to receive the infinite blessings that God has for us.
