WAKE UP FROM THE DREAM!

From the January 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth," writes Mrs. Eddy on page 14 of Science and Health. The task of the Christian Scientist is to awaken from the dream of material living to the Life divine.

Awakening to the complete awareness of spiritual reality is not accomplished in a single bound, as one usually awakens from a night dream, but is a continuing process of spiritual enlightenment and healing. Through the teachings of Christian Science we can learn right now of true spiritual existence outside the dream world of mortal belief and actually experience that existence to the degree of our spiritual understanding of perfect God and perfect man in His likeness. But many awakenings to more spiritually enlightened states of consciousness are required before our final awakening from all error.

Because the dream we have in sleep is similar in many ways to mortal existence, it furnishes us with many helpful and vivid examples of the illusory nature of materiality. In the night dream it is clear that the difficulty is always the dream. If one seems to be starving or chased by lions or experiencing any other misfortune, it is clear that it is not lack or lions or illness but always the dream itself that is the error. Likewise, in daily living, the one evil, or liar, is always the mortal dream of existence itself.
