ETERNAL DAY

From the January 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In a definition on page 584 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes: "Day. The irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love." Then, after quoting a line from Genesis (1:5), "And the evening and the morning were the first day," she adds: "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day, and 'there shall be no night there.'" When divine Mind unfolds the spiritual facts of Truth and Love, the night of materialism fades.

God's perfect day is symbolized by spiritual light. As we earnestly study Christian Science and admit spiritual illumination into our consciousness, the false sense of day, filled with burdensome duties, limitations, material pleasures, bodily ailments, the rush and hurry of human affairs, begins to disappear. The unfolding, peaceful sense of God's day is the ceaseless revelation and expression of that which has always existed.

The understanding and utilization of God's infinite light enable us to see an end to the gloomy night of fear and doubt. Mindful of the ceaseless unfolding of Truth's revelation, we refuse to allow drudgery and the sameness of mortal beliefs to obscure the appearing of the light of the Christ-idea. The true sense of day includes everything good and nothing to fear or overcome.
