Ill health, lack, hunger, fear, insecurity, incompatibility, and aging are universal problems from which people in every country are trying to find surcease. Are those confronted with these conditions finding satisfying answers? Mrs. Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, invites all who are earnestly seeking these answers to accept the solution which was demonstrated by the Master, Christ Jesus, during his healing and teaching ministry. Her invitation is stated thus (Science and Health, p. 249): "Let us accept Science, relinquish all theories based on sense-testimony, give up imperfect models and illusive ideals; and so let us have one God, one Mind, and that one perfect, producing His own models of excellence."
What is this Science we are invited to accept? In "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 1), in answer to the question "How would you define Christian Science?" Mrs. Eddy says, "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." In accepting Science, then, we are allowing ourselves to be governed by an all-inclusive, all-powerful law which maintains God's creation as He created it— perfect, whole, and complete.
Christ Jesus proved that it is possible to accept God's law as ever operative. He left for all mankind this encouraging message (John 8:31, 32): "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The spirituality, courage, and compassion which our Master expressed enabled him to relinquish all connection with material ties and to resist every temptation to give power to matter as a cause or an effect.
