In a paragraph with the marginal heading "Spiritual translation" on page 209 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy makes this arresting statement: "The compounded minerals or aggregated substances composing the earth, the relations which constituent masses hold to each other, the magnitudes, distances, and revolutions of the celestial bodies, are of no real importance, when we remember that they all must give place to the spiritual fact by the translation of man and the universe back into Spirit. In proportion as this is done, man and the universe will be found harmonious and eternal."
If we look upon this "translation of man and the universe back into Spirit" as the ultimate goal to be achieved individually, it could form the nucleus of our own particular lifework.
In the metaphysics of Christian Science the word "translation" denotes the replacing of false material beliefs by spiritual truths. Our task, then, would consist mainly of correcting our thinking; therefore the obvious place to begin the work is within our own consciousness, and the time is now. Each material claim must be instantly replaced by the opposite spiritual concept.
