Testimonies of Healing
My active interest in Christian Science was aroused when a friend of mine was healed of heart trouble in just two weeks. The day-to-day change in her condition was so remarkable that I would have found it difficult to believe had I not witnessed it.
Through the years of my study of Christian Science I have so often been comforted, steadied, and healed through the testimonies of healings given in the Journal and in the Christian Science Sentinel that I can no longer refrain from adding mine to the store. At a time of crisis in health which caused me to resign my position, urgent seeking and praying for a more intelligent concept of God brought me to these words in the ninety-first Psalm (verse 4): "He shall cover thee with his feathers.
With a heart filled with gratitude I wish to testify to the many blessings and healings I have received through Christian Science. It came to our family at a time when very deep anxiety and distress reigned in our home.
A few years ago our daughter was brought home from college suffering from a mental and physical breakdown. She was having Christian Science treatment, but did not improve.
After reading gratefully the testimonies of healing in a Journal, I found the words of the Psalmist uttering themselves in my thought ( Ps. 116:12 ): "What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?" and turning to the Bible I read the answer in the following verses of the Psalm: "I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.
I was reared in an orthodox church, where I studied the Bible throughout my Sunday School years. Also, our family had daily Bible readings.
The Psalmist sang ( Ps. 9:2 ), "I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
At a time of extremity more than thirty years ago Christian Science proved my only hope and help. My mother, who for some years had been the last remaining member of my immediate family, passed on, and I was left with a sense of great loss.
As one who has known Christian Science from early childhood, I am happy to be afforded this opportunity to testify to its power to heal and bless. The first healing that I can remember in our family occurred during the influenza epidemic of 1918, when my brother and I, with our mother, were visiting a family of Christian Scientists.
My first healing in Christian Science was an instantaneous one of a sprained ankle. It was impossible for me to walk, and the pain was excruciating.
