Testimonies of Healing
Many years ago I was asked to purchase a copy of ''Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The blessings which have come to me as the result of my compliance with that request have been beyond what mere words could express.
Although I attended Protestant Sunday schools as a little child, the teaching I received did not impress me. While I was convinced that Jesus meant us really to follow in his footsteps, I made no practical application of this conviction to my life, and my concept of God was very confused.
Christian Science has meant so much to me that I wish to give a testimony in accordance with St. Paul's admonition, "Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
I should like to express gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. Nine years ago I was healed of constipation, a difficulty under which I had labored from early childhood, and for which almost every known medical remedy had been tried in vain.
The healing I wish to relate means so much to me that it seems as if I could find no words to express my gratitude. For a great many years an indefinable mental burden lay upon me, and this burden was reflected in my body.
After my husband, who was a major in the Thirty-seventh Engineers with the American Expeditionary Force in France in 1918, had been overseas for about two months, I passed through a great difficulty. Every night I would awaken from a sound sleep with the ugly suggestion that I was in great danger, even in more danger than the men in the trenches.
Gratitude for the joyousness and peace of mind which have been mine since I began earnestly to study Christian Science, together with my restoration to health, prompts me to take advantage of this avenue which has been so graciously provided for us, to tell of the ''new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God. " When a child, I attended the Christian Science Sunday School for a few years.
During many years the application of Christian Science has met many problems in my family, and I wish to express my gratitude for the understanding I have gained through this study. Oak poisoning, scarlet fever, burns, measles, and many other ills have been healed.
If I were asked what I considered my most precious earthly possessions I would answer without hesitation that the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, mean more to me than any other thing.
In the Christian Science Hymnal we read (Hymn No. 3), A grateful heart a garden is, Where there is always room For every lovely, Godlike grace To come to perfect bloom.
