Testimonies of Healing
I feel that it is a great privilege for me to be able to testify and give thanks to God for His loving-kindness, protection, guidance, and unchanging love. Through the understanding of His government as taught by Christ Jesus, and so clearly revealed to us in this age by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I have been brought safely through "the valley of the shadow of death" several times.
It is with a very grateful heart that I indorse all that my husband has said. Christian Science has made our lives more stable, settled, and serene with the wonderful knowledge that God is indeed ever present and all-powerful.
About four years ago I suffered a physical, mental, and nervous breakdown which I know would have cost me my senses, as well as my life, had it not been for the healing power of Christian Science. After this breakdown my state of health became so bad that after constant care from a specialist, a well-known neurologist and psychologist, who gave the best he knew, the result was entire loss of mind after an attempt at suicide.
Christian Science was presented to us at a time when my physical fitness seemed to be lost forever. Owing to malarial and other fevers, my heart had become so weakened and affected that my physician sent me to the coast as soon as I was able to be moved.
About seven years ago, while on a motor trip hundreds of miles from home, we stopped at a public playground in a large city and our little girl, then not quite two years old, walked into the path of a heavy swing which had just been released by a young man who had jumped from it in mid-air. The board was several inches thick, bound all around with iron, and the corner of it hit the child just over the eye.
When Christian Science was first brought to my notice, about nine years ago, I was in the depths of despair, having no God, and therefore no hope. At that time I was living with my mother, who was always more or less of an invalid; and I had quite made up my mind, as I thought, to end my own life, as soon as my mother passed on.
Christian Science found me an invalid, and quickly healed me of a severe nervous breakdown, following an operation. Since that time, through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner and the continued study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.
I did not take up Christian Science for healing, but to get a more satisfactory understanding of God. I had been taught from childhood that God is a God of love; but when one very dear to me had been a sufferer for many years, although she had been a loving and helpful mother, and could get little relief, a thought of doubt would come into my mind: Could God, a God of love, allow such inharmony to come to His child? I laid aside my Bible, thinking it was not a book for the present; but as my mother wished me to read it to her I would often remark, "I will read it to you, but it means nothing to me.
It is with a very deep sense of gratitude that I submit my testimony relative to the blessings and proofs of God's care that have come to me through Christian Science. A healing which meant my life came to me several years ago.
