Testimonies of Healing
Christian Science came into my experience over ten years ago as the answer to prayer. I had given up my former religion, having failed to find any satisfaction in it, but I had a deep and sincere desire to know the truth about God.
I wish to mention a case of hemorrhoids which was healed in Christian Science several years ago. Before coming into Christian Science I had used many remedies, and had even undergone an operation, but with little, if any, relief.
" Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was put in the pocket of my overcoat by a dear sister, with the suggestion that I might find something useful therein.
With great gratitude and joy I wish to relate the blessings I have received in Christian Science. Since childhood I had suffered from chronic constipation, together with many other evils, such as headaches, neuralgia, and nervousness.
I came into Christian Science through gratitude for the healing of my mother. I was thirteen years of age at the time, and after her healing I went to her with eyes filled with tears of gratitude and asked if I might not go to the Christian Science Sunday School.
Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. " Christ, Truth, has made my children and me free from many, many ills; and I am most grateful.
Some years ago I thought it humorous to tease one who was a student of Christian Science. Finally an attack of lumbago failed to respond to medical treatment; so with humility I asked for help in Christian Science from this same student, who gave me a copy of "The People's Idea of God" by" Mary Baker Eddy.
I was led to Christian Science while passing through deep waters— sorrow, anxiety, and sickness, and the loss of everything that then seemed to make life worth while. There was also a great fear of the future.
An old saying is, "Open confession is good for the soul. " I certainly ask forgiveness of Christian Science, for my feeling was once bitter against it, owing to religious training and later to my work as a nurse.
About twenty-six years ago I was living in New York City, and when a friend invited me to attend a Christian Science Wednesday evening testimony meeting I did so from curiosity, expecting to be amused more than anything else. Without realizing it, I found myself regularly attending services both on Wednesday and on Sunday.
