Testimonies of Healing
During the four years that I have been in Christian Science I have received many benefits, and it is with the deepest gratitude that I write this testimony. I was healed of an organic disease of many years' standing, and for which I had undergone a severe surgical operation.
Twenty-six years ago I was taken with a severe abdominal trouble, which in the course of time developed into a bowel complaint. It was said that an operation alone could free me of this disease, and I submitted to this torture three times at intervals of five years, and once of only one year.
I see so many good demonstrations in the periodicals that it prompts me to add my mite, as it may help some poor unfortunate who is what I once was. About eight years ago I was rescued by Christian Science from one of the worst habits that ever fastened itself upon a poor human being.
I desire to make acknowledgment, through the Journal, of the healing of our oldest son about two years ago. His father was hoisting dirt from a well by means of a large derrick, and my son was standing near the well when the wire ropes broke, letting the derrick fall.
In Malachi we read: "Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. " This is the experience of those who take up the study of Christian Science, and it certainly has been mine.
Thankfulness to God impels me to tell others of the wonderful healing which has come to us through Christian Science Three years ago our little daughter was stricken with epileptic trouble. She was, however, completely healed with one week's treatment in Christian Science, and is now healthy and strong.
IT is over two and a half years since I began the study of Christian Science, and I have hesitated till now about writing a testimony, because it seemed to me that I had so little to tell which was likely to interest others or be useful to them; but recently I have been led to see that others may be in much the same condition as I was, and that a plain account of what brought about this extraordinary change in me may possibly be helpful to them. I was educated very strictly and carefully in the religious thought of the established church, and up to about three and twenty I had never felt the slightest doubt as to its doctrines being the whole and only truth.
In January, 1908, my wife was operated upon for a rapidly growing and malignant form of disease. Three excisions were made.
More than four years ago I turned to Christian Science for the healing of my eyes, from which I had suffered untold agony for nearly a year. I was almost blind, for I could not endure the light by day, and an artificial light was unbearable.
I am a living witness to the fact that the disease called aneurism can be healed. I give this testimony for publication at the request of friends, prompted by their reading of an article from the Associated Press concerning a man in an eastern city who was afflicted just as I had been.
