Testimonies of Healing
That God's law is a law of perfection has been wonderfully proven to me since I became interested in Christian Science, some fourteen months ago. I came into Science because I wanted a God.
Some months ago my husband was stricken with very acute pain in the left eye. He had been suffering at intervals, however, for several months, and decided to go to a specialist at once for treatment.
Hoping that others may benefit thereby, I feel it a duty as well as a great pleasure to give my personal experience of the very happy results of Christian Science. Spiritually I have been raised from the dead, and my blind eyes have been made to see; physically the lame has been made to walk.
I have good reason to be grateful to Christian Science. Brought up in the fear of a lung trouble which was believed to be hereditary, I remained many years in dread of this disease.
My gratitude for Christian Science cannot be expressed in words, but I give this testimony hoping that it may be the means of helping others. When Christian Science was presented to me, about four years ago, I was a mental and physical wreck, and as I did not understand Christian Science I even feared to tell the practitioner to whom I went of all my troubles and ailments at once, for fear she would not take my case.
It is six years since a good lady loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," saying that if I read it I would become a better member of the church to which I then belonged. The remark appealed to me, as that had been my highest ideal for many years; so I took the "little book," and that night read until nearly midnight, and daily thereafter.
Fourteen years ago I was healed through Christian Science. From childhood I had been subject to serious throat trouble every few weeks, until in later years the doctors pronounced it chronic, said that it affected my whole system, and that the only relief they could give me was by periodically operating on my throat.
A little more than a year ago I appealed to Christian Science for relief from a very serious physical and mental condition, so serious that six months before I had been compelled to give up my business—severing at that time all connections which it had taken me years to establish. During these six months I had devoted my whole attention and a large amount of money to trying to get well and had had the best medical attention from a celebrated specialist in New York City.
I was led to Christian Science after my physician, who was also an old friend, told me to engage a room at a hospital at once; "within three days" were his orders. He gave me a note to the surgeon (which note I still have), saying that he thought I ought to have two operations performed, a preliminary or preparative one, the other a very serious operation to eradicate the trouble.
Among the hundreds of thousands who have found the "philosopher's stone" in Mrs. Eddy's little book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I am one, and like the leper I come back to give thanks, honor to whom honor is due.
