I have good reason to be grateful to Christian Science

From the December 1907 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have good reason to be grateful to Christian Science. Brought up in the fear of a lung trouble which was believed to be hereditary, I remained many years in dread of this disease. I had been twelve years married when my health gave way. After several months' medical treatment, with careful attention to nursing and hygiene, but no permanent improvement, I consulted a specialist of recognized standing who, after advising me that a change of climate would be useless, told me to give up all work and spoke very kindly of setting my affairs in order within the year. I arranged my law practice to secure as much time as possible and lived practically out of doors. After four years of this struggle, death as a relief seemed welcome. A change of climate brought only temporary benefit, followed by even more severe mental distress.

At this time I was led to read a newspaper report of a lecture on Christian Science which was very convincing. I sent for a copy of the Christian Science Journal, bought "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and read portions of the text-book secretly and with many misgivings. The absolute logic and justice of its statements were at once apparent, together with the Scriptural authority therefor. I went to see a practitioner, and the remembrance of his kindness is with me yet. After earnest consideration I felt it my duty to join The Mother Church and one of the branch churches, and later received class instruction. The daily study of the Lesson-Sermon has proved its worth many times, the right mental activity being very necessary in my profession. The physical healing which is in progress is apparent to everybody, as I have been enabled to take up active work again and am restored to wife and family, — a better man morally, and with the earnest of complete regeneration. Surely I have good reason to be grateful not only to the giver of all good gifts, but to the woman whose devotion to Truth is a living example to each of us.—
