With deepest gratitude and as an act of thanksgiving to God I send this testimony of my beautiful and instantaneous healing, trusting fervently it may help others. For twenty-two years I was ill from a fever which developed into heart trouble and was aggravated by attacks of throat and lung trouble, and later on by a sharp attack which the doctor feared would be fatal. For fifteen years I was carried up all stairs and was forbidden to walk. I had constant severe pain and frequent attacks of extreme difficulty in breathing. During the last seven years of the time I was obliged to sleep sitting up in bed.
Three years ago I first heard of Christian Science. I was in London, suffering from a heart attack, when an old friend, who is not a Scientist, called to see me. She begged me to try Christian Science, of which she had heard a great deal. I told her I knew nothing of it, but would be pleased to meet her Scientist friend. Two days later this friend kindly called to see me and gave me a general idea as to the healing power of Christian Science. What she told me had such a ring of truth that I asked for treatment, which was given then and there and I was healed at once. About three months afterwards I discovered that varicose veins, from which I had suffered since I was eighteen years of age and for which my doctor had urged me to have a surgical operation, no longer caused me any pain or inconvenience, nor have they since troubled me. I now take long walks and run upstairs as I did when a girl.
About a year after my healing I happened to be traveling in Germany, and called upon an old friend, a German specialist, who had originally diagnosed my distressing symptoms and who had attended me on and off for fourteen years. He remarked on my healthy appearance and asked what had so benefited me. I told him I had been cured by Christian Science, of which he had heard. He was very much interested, proceeded to examine me with a stethoscope, and pronounced my heart to be perfectly sound and normal in its action. I may mention incidentally that two other specialists had been consulted and they had given me no hope of getting any better.
