Testimonies of Healing
I desire to tell through the Journal what Christian Science has done for me. Some six years ago I was taken sick with the grip while living in Indianapolis, and as a consequence of this, together with a generally poor state of health, I found myself suffering from incipient consumption, so pronounced by three reputable physicians.
Since finding Christian Science, the pearl of great price, there seems to be a constant song in my heart which at times will not be silenced, but must express the gratitude I feel to God for all the harmony that has come through the revelation of this wonderful truth. In reviewing the past two years I am simply overwhelmed, the blessings are so many that come crowding into my consciousness.
It is about thirteen years since I first heard of Christian Science through the healing of the mother of a very dear friend of mine, of cancer. And yet, strange to say, though I knew of this wonderful healing, perfect in every way, I did not become interested in Christian Science until three years ago.
Several years ago my mother had a wart on her face, just under one eye. She thought little or nothing about it until finally it began to grow and be inflamed, causing much annoyance and some uneasiness.
I give my testimony with the hope that a personal experience of healing through individual effort and the reading of Science and Health, may be of help to some sufferer who perchance is "toiling along the weary way" of illusion, disease, and fear, with "painful step and slow. " From early girlhood my trend of thought has been along reformatory and educational lines.
It is a pleasure to write the details of Mr. C.
As I sit this Sunday afternoon in the quiet of my room and my thoughts wander to the past. I recall that from childhood I have yearned for something better than speculation regarding man and his relationship to the Almighty.
" The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. " Thank God for that final verdict! We Christian Scientists, enlisted for the destruction of sin, sickness, and death, give sincere thanks that the day is nearer than when the apostle made this momentous statement, whereby we learn, that death is not of God, it is not a friend, it is not irrevocable; it is an enemy, and is to be destroyed.
I have known for years that there was a great deal of good in Christian Science, but I never thought that I should be one to test it. I took a severe cold and my physician called it pneumonia.
Some twenty years ago I injured my ankle, and although I went under a doctor's care at once, it kept getting worse until there proved to be a very bad type of ulcer. After trying three doctors in Nevada City, I came to San Francisco and received treatment from a celebrated physician there.
