Testimonies of Healing

Thirteen years ago my husband and I went on a walking trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. On the third day we were forced to discontinue the trip because of a stiffness which developed in my knees, an ailment, as I have since learned, that is common to hikers.

My gratitude for Christian Science, put into words, gives only a faint glimpse of the wonderful joy that its teachings have brought into my life. The spiritual understanding of the Bible which I have gained through the intelligent explanations given in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, has been such that I find myself able to apply it to every situation with which I am confronted.

I should like to give grateful thanks for all the blessings which I have received through adherence to the teachings of Christian Science. My parents became earnest students of this healing and regenerating religion when I was an infant, with the result that all the troubles and complaints supposed to be associated with childhood were overcome by spiritual means alone, and neither medical advice nor remedies were ever resorted to in any form.

On the quotation page of her "Miscellaneous Writings" our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has written a poem, the last verse of which reads (p. vii): "My world has sprung from Spirit, In everlasting day; Whereof, I've more to glory, Wherefor, have much to pay.

In Proverbs we read ( 3:6 ), "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. " How true we find this to be when we recognize God as the only power and seek to follow His guidance.

In 1930 I became interested in Christian Science. At that time I was very unhappy, for we had been told that our son, who was in a sanatorium with tuberculosis, was very ill.

My reasons for expressing gratitude for Christian Science are more than can be numbered. For the healing of sorrow and self-pity after the passing on of a loved one and for the physical healing that delivered me from the belief that I must pass on, I am especially grateful, because they led to my continued study of Christian Science, which enables me daily to work out my own salvation and to help others.

Christian Science has indeed been to me the Comforter promised by the Master, Christ Jesus. In the year 1932 I was healed of neuritis, arthritis, low blood pressure, and anemia by reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in connection with the Bible.

One Sunday afternoon I experienced very severe pains in the side of my head and nausea. A friend called a Christian Science practitioner for me, and work was taken up.
