Mighty Truth of Heavenly birth,
Angels bring thee near;
Rise, ye children of the earth,
You are bidden here.
Blessings e'er thy steps attend,
All "thy paths are peace."
Knowing Wisdom, still defend
Every right, the wrong despise,
Right will lift thee to the skies.
God is Life and Truth and Love,
Light on all bestowing,
Onward, upward, look above,
Virtue's lamp is glowing,
Ever bright, and ever pure,
Rife with beauties which endure.
Everlasting Life is here,
Death is error—of the earth;—
Do thy duty, never fear,
You are of the second birth.
Trust not to each accusing tongue,
As most weak persons do;
But still believe that story false
Which ought not to be true.—
"The best revenge is love: disarm
Anger with smiles, heal wounds with balm,
Give water to thy thirsting foe.
The sandal-tree, as if to prove
How sweet to conquer hate by love,
Perfumes the axe which lays it low."—
