When I have been asked how and when I first became interested in Christian Science, my answer has been, "I do not know, the growth into Science has been so gradual. When I was about fifteen years old, I came to live in the home of my aunt, who was a Christian Scientist. My father was a member of an orthodox church, and I had been brought up according to orthodox doctrines. At first I was indifferent to Christian Science, although I knew my aunt had been brought out of hopeless invalidism into health and strength by it a number of years before. I had, however, always been a reasonably healthy girl and felt that as I had no need of medicine I certainly had none for Christian Science, which I supposed should be employed only as a last resort.
While my general health was good I had frequent attacks of sick headache. As this was a strong hereditary ailment, I accepted it as a matter of course, and usually went to bed for a day to "sleep it off." Finally I received treatment, as I was more than willing to be relieved of this trouble. I received help in great measure, but not until I gave up my orthodox beliefs and took up the study of Science and Health was I able to demonstrate over this ailment for myself.
Two years ago a tumorous growth suddenly developed on my upper lip. It grew very large and unsightly, and bled profusely. The claim was stubborn, and I was controlled somewhat by non-Scientist relatives and friends, who frankly told me how injudicious I was to have Science instead of surgery. After about three months. Science was victorious, the ugly growth suddenly dropped off, leaving the lip perfectly healed and unscarred.
