Christian Science has blessed me for years, and I feel the time has come to express my gratitude publicly. As is frequently the case, my first conviction came through physical healing. A physician had pronounced my trouble quick consumption, and had said that I could live but a very short time. He was called from the city, and my mother, having had proof of the power of Christian Science, sent for a practitioner. It was this lady's first case, and it was certainly an instance where the Scientist reached her patient through divine Love, as our Leader counsels us to do (Science and Health, p. 365), for the healing was practically accomplished at one visit. Three days after my first treatment the physician returned, and when he had looked at me critically, he exclaimed, "She looks as though she had been convalescent a month." Previous to this time I had been subject to frequent attacks of stomach trouble, lung fever, and nasal catarrh, and also had spinal trouble, so it was thought. that if I lived I must always be an invalid. The healing proved a destruction to these diseases, and my liberty as a child of God was established.
Some years ago, a great sorrow came to me, so great that friends looked to see me crushed beneath it. But Christian Science does not give us healthy bodies and leave us with grieving hearts and discontented minds. Through the help of a faithful student the still, small voice of divine Love constantly filled my consciousness with, "I will not leave you comfortless," and this need too was met. So wonderfully was I upheld, that friends who did not know the sustaining power of divine Love as revealed in Christian Science, begged me to give way to grief lest there should be a reaction fatal to mind or body, but that there is no reaction to God's power was demonstrated in this, as in my physical healing.
It has recently been my inestimable privilege to receive class instruction, and each day since has unfolded a new and more spiritual meaning to the words of our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. These are the mountain peaks in my experience. The way between has been filled with evidences of God's ability and willingness to give His children peace. "Oh the depths of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God." How can we express our gratitude to our Leader and to all who have been instrumental in bringing this blessing to us? Only by giving evidence of it in our lives.
