[Translated from the German]

It is with deep joy and a sense...

From the May 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with deep joy and a sense of utmost gratitude that I wish to testify to the many blessings received,—the proofs of the power of Truth as found in Christian Science. Six years have elapsed since I became acquainted with its teachings. Until then I had always lived in a state of fear with regard to the life of my husband and child, and in consequence had become very miserable. At times I would be overcome by fear, to which was added impaired action of the heart. In due time, however, the truth as preached and lived by Jesus came into my life, illuminating my consciousness and setting me free. My sister, who knew that I was suffering from the effects of fear, sent me a copy of the Herold, and this made such a deep impression upon me that its first reading was attended by the cessation of a disturbance in the region of the heart. New hope filled me at the thought that after all there was a Physician and Saviour for those in great need and danger.

Our three year old daughter being afflicted with stubborn bowel disorder, no day going by without recourse to some sort of remedy, we applied to a Christian Science practitioner in Dresden, as at that time I knew too little about Christian Science and its application to be able to treat anybody. The trouble did not seem to yield at first, probably owing to the fact that we thought too much about material means and were even tempted to use such as we had resorted to before Christian Science treatment was begun. Suddenly, however, I realized that God's power supersedes all human strength and means of help, and from that moment on the child was healed of the disease. She was also cured of a malignant eruption of the skin. We must have tested the patience of the practitioner sorely. The treatment was absent, but this ailment also yielded to the power of omnipotent Love.

Through the study of the textbook, I gradually began to understand, whereas formerly I did not get beyond the stage of hoping. Now I understand the meaning of the words, "The truth shall make you free." What a blessing it is for us German people to have "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" translated into our tongue! We cannot be too grateful for this. Thanks be to God, and praise to Him for letting us hear the voice of Truth. Thanks also to our Leader, who through spiritual illumination and clear understanding was enabled to point out to us the way leading out of darkness into light.
