This is the day the Lord hath made! To-day
I will rejoice; in it I will be glad.
No yesterday with thorns upon the way
Can pierce its hours or make one moment sad.
No morrow with a fear of consequence
Can follow it with cruel recompense.
But just to-day! Intact, Lord, give it me
Replete with love, with rest, with energy;
And if my outstretched hand, inadequate,
Reject its bounty, trusting I can wait,
Knowing naught is withheld. Therefore I say
I will rejoice; I will be glad to-day!
