Testimonies of Healing

For some time previous to my...

From the July 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For some time previous to my knowing anything about Christian Science I had felt disappointed with the results of my religion. I had been brought up in the Church of England, but felt in the latter years that I was not getting what the Bible promised. I had a deep desire to know more about God. During my search I attended a Bible class for men held by the curate of the parish, and during a lesson one of the members put the following question to the curate: "Can you tell us the difference between the two creations given in the book of Genesis?" He replied in the following words: "No. I am sorry to say I cannot; but this I will say, that the first person who does find it will open the Book so that all may understand it." That answer was a great help to me a few weeks after. As I was carrying my arm in a sling, having sprained my wrist, a lady asked me to try Christian Science for it. I read some of the literature and was lent the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I soon started reading it, and what was my surprise and joy when I found in it that Mrs. Eddy had realized the difference between the two accounts of creation given in the Bible, and that she points out the difference between them so that all may understand. Through the reading of the two books mentioned above I have since had many healings and much spiritual enlightenment.

My first healing was of a growth in the back, which had been there for some years and had caused me much trouble at times. After I had been reading Science and Health a few weeks the trouble began again. I tried to do my own work as taught in Science and Health, but found that I required a higher understanding; so the next day I spoke to a practitioner about it, telling her what I thought the growth was. She spoke a few words to me, and the healing was instantaneous. I felt for the place the next morning, but there was nothing there. Another healing was that of an abscess in the throat. I had suffered from it for a fortnight, doing my work as far as I understood how, and at last I felt that I had done all I could do and would leave the rest in God's hands. I went to bed at nine o'clock and fell asleep, a thing I had not done for a week. When I woke up about eleven my throat was quite normal, as the abscess had disappeared; and in the morning I was able to eat my breakfast quite comfortably. For these healings I am very grateful.

How grateful we all should be for the wonderful help we receive through our Leader's writings!—
