With my sincere wish to express...

From the July 1937 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With my sincere wish to express gratitude for Christian Science and what it has done and is doing for me, I give this testimony. I hope that it may in some way help someone along the road to true happiness.

One healing which I experienced soon after becoming interested in Christian Science stands out in my thought because of the help it has given me in the solving of other problems. This is the healing of the smoking habit. Before taking up the study of Christian Science, I had smoked very heavily for eight years. I had tried to break this habit many times by using will power, but each time I would go back to it.

One day when I was about to light a cigarette, the truth about this habit stood out so clearly that I was instantaneously healed of the false appetite. However, I was somewhat uneasy as to whether I would go back to it again, as had been the case when I had used will power. I mentioned this to a practitioner, who lovingly assured me that this was a Christian Science demonstration, and that when God does the work it cannot be undone. I am exceedingly grateful that these words were spoken at the time, because this was the only fear left that had to be removed before the healing was complete. With these words, all fear of the healing not being permanent melted away.
