RESTING PLACES

From the July 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The weary traveler is always glad to find a resting place. Here is a cessation from effort, with peace and quiet, that he may be refreshed and gain new strength for the continuance of his journey.

According to human belief, when one has been active he needs a certain amount of time in which to recuperate. This is a so-called law of mortal mind, which declares that life and intelligence are in matter. Christian Science reveals that God is Spirit, and the only source of power. Man, created in His likeness, reflects the activity of divine Mind. God is never weary, and spiritual man does not tire in his expression of the divine will. Such knowledge enables us to rest in Truth, and find ourselves free and joyous in working with God.

There are times, however, when we seem blinded to this truth, when mortal sense tells us we have gone far enough, and must rest. For these times opportunity is provided, for divine Love meets our human needs. But this rest does not consist of mere ease in matter, or a certain amount of sleep. Rather is it a turning of thought to divine Truth and away from the false dream-shadows of material sense, knowing that they are but mortal beliefs, and constitute no part of man, God's reflection.
