"They cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. ... Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness." As the Psalmist exclaims, so should we thank God wholeheartedly for His loving care and protection.
A few years ago, three days before Christmas, my father had a severe accident and was taken unconscious to a hospital, where my mother and I were summoned, after hours of suspense and anxiety. The doctor stated that it was concussion of the brain and fracture of the skull. There was also a cerebral hemorrhage, and the doctor expected the worst. We were stunned in the face of this terrible mishap.
Then in the night we turned in fervent prayer to God, and He had compassion on us. I heard a "still small voice" within me say, "Fear not" and "Lo, I am with you alway," and thus calmed I fell asleep. Not until later was I aware of the marvelousness of this, for I had not read the Bible since childhood. The next morning this thought came to me clearly, Turn to Christian Science. We did this immediately, for twelve years before we had heard of a relative's wonderful healing of heart trouble through this teaching. We therefore looked up this relative and upon her recommendation asked a practitioner for absent treatment. She acquainted us with Christian Science lovingly and with great patience. Through her words of comfort that always my father was resting in God's strong arm, our fear gradually vanished. My father's condition improved in the degree that our faith in God's omnipotent and omnipresent love became more steadfast and the healing truth which Mrs. Eddy declares in Science and Health (p. 424) penetrated our consciousness: "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection."
