This testimony is given in gratitude for the many blessings and for the happiness I have received through Christian Science.
About seventeen years ago my daughter became sickly, and for about four years she went from physician to physician without receiving help. In the end she had to be operated on. After the operation there was some improvement, but in a few months she again became very nervous and ailing. In five years' time she underwent three major operations. While these did not cause her to feel any better, nevertheless whenever possible she worked in an office. The president of that firm was a Christian Scientist.
When the physician told her she would have to be operated on for the fourth time, my daughter went to see the president and asked for leave of absence, telling him that she would have to go to the hospital once more. This was on a Tuesday. She was to go to the hospital on Thursday. The president then asked her to sit down and began to explain Christian Science to her. That evening she went to see a practitioner, and the next day, Wednesday, she went to church. I knew nothing of all this. All day Thursday I waited for the telephone message that was to tell me the hour when the operation was to take place. I waited until two o'clock Friday, when at last the telephone rang. I was almost afraid to answer, but when I did it was not the hospital, but my daughter calling. I was very much surprised when I heard her voice, because she said, in a very cheerful tone, that she was at the office and that she would never go to the hospital again. I had to be satisfied with that until Sunday, when she came home. I shall never forget the happiness on her face.
