Testimonies of Healing

APPRECIATION of Christian Science...

From the October 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Appreciation of Christian Science as the basis of harmonious living leads me to add this testimony to the thousands of others given by grateful seekers of Truth.

Early in my experience as a student of Christian Science I was attacked by an insidious and supposedly incurable disease, which so weakened and unfitted me for normal activity that I was obliged to leave my college work and remain at home for ten months. During this time the evidence of the senses seemed alarming, and the expressed opinion of relatives that medical treatment should be resorted to had to be lovingly but firmly met with the declaration of Truth's omnipotence. Neither my faith, however, nor that of my immediate family wavered. I studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy almost constantly, enlisted the help of one of Mrs. Eddy's faithful students, and never doubted that I should be healed. As a result, I was able to be about, to walk daily to the practitioner's office, and to add constantly to my store of understanding and gratitude. When Truth finally uncovered the mental cause of the trouble, the disease disappeared, normal bodily functions were reestablished, strength and color returned, and I was as one reborn. Never shall I forget the joy which flooded my thought that spring, when the world about me seemed to be expressing the new-found life which I was experiencing.

Many other physical difficulties have been overcome, among them an attack of acute appendicitis and the fear of its return, a bone felon, chronic sore throat, loss of voice, sprained ankles, and severe colds which lasted throughout the winter months. When the passing of my father some years ago made the first break in our home circle, the sense of grief was instantly and permanently replaced by the recognition of God as unchanging Life and of man's continuous and eternal activity. If the teachings of Mrs. Eddy had done no more for me than this, I should consider them priceless. The securing and retaining of positions, ability to carry on new and difficult professional work, the solution of financial problems, establishment of a home, and joyous participation in church affairs all have resulted from the application of the Christ, Truth.
