Mrs. Eddy gives us this arresting message on page 450 of the textbook, Science and Health: "Some people yield slowly to the touch of Truth. Few yield without a struggle, and many are reluctant to acknowledge that they have yielded." I feel the urge to acknowledge in this testimony my yielding at a time when it seemed I was on the very brink of passing on.
One night I had a hemorrhage. I tried to work for myself, but very soon a member of my household heard me, and a practitioner was called. Much fear was expressed by the dear ones in the home. I became so weak I could hardly walk. As I meditated, I felt my courage returning. I caught the sweet tones of Truth. The healing came slowly. A cough had developed, and many other conditions had to be met. One very dear to me, but not a Christian Scientist, insisted on my having an X ray made of the lungs. This showed an enlarged heart, and the physician said to me, "God was good to you. the hemorrhage saved your life; but you will always have to be careful." That was four years ago. I am happy to say that I am now in excellent health.
All during this illness my constant desire was for the discordant condition to stop. One day I opened the textbook to the beautiful message on page 151, "All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal." This message made it clear that this evidence of the physical senses had never touched my real being, which is perfect, and all I had to do was to stop believing the lie, and hold to the truth, which I did.
