Before I became acquainted with Christian Science, my daughter and her husband had received healings and had been benefited in many ways through Science. They lovingly assured me that I, too, could be freed from sickness and unhappiness. I was in need of healing and had received no help from materia medica or dieting, but I did not seem to be receptive to Truth at that time, and I did not think kindly of Christian Science until after I had witnessed three outstanding healings.
The first demonstration of the healing power of divine Truth which it was my privilege to witness was an instantaneous healing of blood poisoning which was experienced by my son-in-law. One of his fingers had been infected, and the physician who examined it said that it should be amputated at once in order to prevent the loss of his arm. Instead of consenting to an operation, he asked for Christian Science treatment. This was promptly given. He received relief immediately, and in a few hours all pain and inflammation had disappeared. The following day he was able to be in his place as a member of an orchestra.
Two healings were also experienced by my daughter. Through reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and with the assistance of a practitioner, she was healed of a nervous breakdown. On another occasion, with the aid of a practitioner, she was instantaneously healed of a discordant condition which seemed to be very serious.
