EXAMPLE

From the June 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

O Christian, tortured by resentment's sting
Because you drink the dregs of hatred's brew
And bear a heavy cross alone, review
The Saviour's life—it will be comforting.
No condemnation that the world may bring
Can stand before the Christliness that drew,
"Forgive them; for they know not what they do
From Jesus in unselfed petitioning.

Then follow his example, make your own
This Christly love which overcomes all hate;
It will deliver you from hatred's tomb,
For love can roll away the heaviest stone;
Then to your lifted eyes it will create
A glad new world, where Easter lilies bloom.
