Financial contributions, as everyone knows, are necessary for the maintenance of a Christian Science church. However, there are other methods of unselfish giving and support that are essential to its welfare and prosperity.
The major methods available for giving are the devotion of sufficient time daily to the faithful study of Christian Science and the acquisition of a demonstrable understanding of its rules. Christian Scientists know that individual demonstration is necessary for the growth of our movement. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 174): "Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised."
We are all practitioners in so far as we are learning to practice the truth from the standpoint of God's perfection. How shall we as Christian Scientists demonstrate the truth of perfection? By accepting as our standpoint Mrs. Eddy's great statement on page 259 of Science and Health, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."
