Testimonies of Healing

In Psalms we read, "Blessed is...

From the June 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In Psalms we read, "Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple." In considering this verse in Psalms I am reminded of God's goodness to me, and I feel I should like to share my experience, hoping that it may encourage others who are endeavoring to extricate themselves from the mesmerism of materia medica, as well as other material systems.

When Christian Science first came to my notice, I was visiting in the home of a relative who was an earnest student of Christian Science. I was then a graduate medical nurse, not in the least interested in what I thought Christian Science to be. I was forced to witness a demonstration in this home which opened my eyes to the power of spiritual healing. The relative was very dear to me. I knew from my experience in surgery that the condition, under material treatment, would call for an immediate operation; and to be forced to stand by impotently when it seemed to me that nothing was being done, was the hardest thing I had ever been called upon to do. However, the demonstration was made within a very few hours, and the patient was up at the usual time in the morning, remaining up all day and caring for her home as usual. I knew beyond a doubt that something wonderful had occurred, and was more interested than I was willing anyone should know.

A little later I became ill with influenza. My friends urged that a doctor should be called, but I refused. When I did not improve, I was asked if I would not have help from a practitioner of Christian Science. Being curious as to what would happen, I gave my consent. A practitioner was called from another city and the work was begun. Just to see how things were going, I kept a thermometer under my pillow and regularly took my temperature. It was hardly strange that there was no improvement, and things became worse. At last, wearied with everything, I discarded the thermometer. The healing then took place almost immediately. It took place so quickly that I was amazed. I arose, dressed, and took a walk of several blocks.
