Mankind is constantly looking for changes, expecting and demanding them. Some individuals fear changes, others welcome them. The child, as soon as he begins to think for himself, looks forward to the change from home life to school interests. The student at school longs for the time when he may enter the business world or take up a profession. Many in the business or professional world are seeking changes with the thought of enlarging their incomes. Those with physical problems believe that certain changes in the body must occur before they can experience health. Some think that change of environment will free them from unhappy home relations; and many feel that changes in the form or administration of government are needed to bring about abundance, harmony, and peace.
But Christian Science teaches that God and the real man never change. Prosperity, health, peace, and contentment come when we realize this. On page 310 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read, "Soul changeth not;" and on page 477 she writes, "Man is the expression of Soul." Our work is to prove this, for on page 162 of the same book we find these words: "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies." She adds, "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." The question is. How can the human mind be stirred to a change of base?
The first step is to begin a study of Mrs. Eddy's works in conjunction with the Bible. The Bible, in the light of Christian Science, reveals the fact that God has never changed and will never change; that He has always sustained, maintained, and cared for His universe and man. It shows that God is Love, Spirit, and Mind, everlasting and immutable. It tells us that man is the image and likeness of God; therefore, because God never changes, man cannot change: he is ever loving, spiritual, and perfect. As God has always existed, so man will exist forever. The sun's rays cannot change, because they reflect the sun, their only source. In like manner, man, as reflection, eternally expresses the qualities of God.
