The following quotation from the Bible, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee," turned my weary thought searching for peace and comfort toward the healing truth as given in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Doctors had pronounced my trouble anemia and had said that it would be imperative for me to submit to at least one or two surgical operations before I could regain normal strength and activity.
My first attendance at a Christian Science lecture was a further incentive to turn completely to God with humility and rely on His love and protection. After I left this lecture, the conviction was so positive that "the way" had opened that within a short time I turned for help to a consecrated practitioner, who lovingly guided me away from fear and bondage to false material laws.
I cannot express in words my gratitude for the sustaining help and courage found during this time in our Christian Science periodicals. One statement was particularly helpful and appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel of March 26, 1938. It was: ''Oneness with divine Principle, Love, precludes a personal sense of selfhood, and makes nothing of the so-called basis of fear, and so makes nothing of fear. Thus Christian Science enables us to prove that 'perfect love casteth out fear,' as John writes in his first epistle."
