WILLIAM P. McKENZIE, C.S.B.

From the November 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with deep regret, and with sincere sympathy for the many friends and pupils of our beloved associate and co-worker, William P. McKenzie, C.S.B., that we record his sudden passing on at his home in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, September 8. He was well known to the entire Field for his long and faithful service to The Mother Church in various capacities.

Mr. McKenzie was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. He was educated at Upper Canada College, Toronto University, Knox College, Toronto, and Auburn Theological Seminary. Following a brief pastorate in the Presbyterian church, Mr. McKenzie taught English literature and rhetoric at Rochester (New York) University, during which time he became interested in Christian Science.

He became a "First Member" of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ. Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1894; and in 1896, at the invitation of Mary Baker Eddy, he came to Boston to become a member of the committee which prepared the Bible Lessons for Christian Science services. In 1898, by Mrs. Eddy's appointment, he became one of the original Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society, serving until July, 1917, when he was appointed Editor of the Christian Science religious periodicals. He served in this position until March, 1920. He was again appointed a Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society in January, 1922, and served in that position until he retired to take up the duties of a Director of The Mother Church in September, 1932. Mr. McKenzie has also been one of the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy since 1932.
