Isaiah's prophecy (42:16), "I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known," was literally fulfilled in my experience when I turned wholeheartedly to Christian Science.
I had left home in 1929 to take a job in Boston, only to find upon my arrival that owing to the condition of the stock market the job had vanished. I knew no one to whom to turn, and my efforts to find work were unsuccessful. Then I reasoned that since Christian Science had been relied upon effectively by my mother from my earliest childhood, it could help me now.
Accordingly I called on the first practitioner I could find and explained my situation. I still remember the assurance I received in that interview. I gladly followed the advice to read the book of Acts and also Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy in a near-by Reading Room. Never before had I experienced such a feeling of the presence and power of good or realized what could be accomplished by spiritual means. The next morning at the second place where I called, the owner of the business listened to my story. In a few minutes he interrupted me by pointing to a desk and saying: "That desk is vacant. The job is yours if you want it." That was the beginning of several fruitful years with that concern.
