When I first heard of Christian Science I was in Washington, District of Columbia, had just been released from a hospital, and was growing worse. I went to a practitioner to have Christian Science explained to me and to ask for treatment. I had many healings during that first week. Then I returned to Montana, where there was no one in the community friendly to Christian Science, no telephone by which to communicate with a Christian Scientist when there was need, and a mail delivery only two days a week.
About six months after I heard of Science I went with my husband to the woods one day and came in contact with some poison ivy. The next day the poison had manifested itself on my face and in my nostrils. I had no idea how to give a treatment, but decided I would go to the house and read Science and Health. Meanwhile a neighbor came, and reminded me of a person living near there who a few years before was in bed and under a doctor's care for nearly a year with this trouble. My fear increased, but not once did I think of using any material aid. I had faith in God to heal me, but no understanding of the method of Science healing.
As soon as I was left alone I started to read, and it was about four hours before I laid Science and Health down. All fear had left me, and I seemed to be "present with the Lord" (II Cor. 5:8). The next morning my face was clear and smooth.
