Christian Science was first introduced into our family by my brother, who had come into contact with it while on a business trip. We paid little attention to it then, but later, when we had moved to another city, my sister and I began dropping in at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings of a Church of Christ, Scientist, near by, because, being strangers, we had little else to do.
At that time my mother had been suffering with a paralyzed condition for at least two years. Many methods of healing had been tried to no avail. Having heard, in some of the testimonies, of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I procured one from the public library and suggested to my mother that she read it. She did so and was completely healed the first day, although I know she had no expectancy of healing when she began to read. Naturally, the whole family wanted to know how this had come about, and so we started studying and attending church services regularly.
Several months later I was healed of chronic gastritis, so named by a specialist, through the clear comprehension that food had never caused the intense distress, but rather my acceptance of the belief that certain foods or combinations of foods would do so. In more than thirty years I have not had the slightest suggestion of that trouble.
