I began earnestly studying Christian Science over five years ago. Although I had always known of this Science, and my mother is a Christian Scientist, I did not feel the need of studying for myself until then.
One Christmas Eve I looked out the window and saw our younger son, then past two years old, playing on the lawn. Not more than ten minutes later I heard a knock at the door, and a young man stood on the step with the child in his arms. He said: "I am so sorry, but I have struck your little boy with my car. What can I do to help you?" As I took the boy and laid him on the table, this thought came to me: "He is as perfect now as he was ten minutes ago. He reflects the wholeness and completeness of God." As I bathed his face, my thoughts were with God. I kept thinking of the definitions for God as given in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
Upon further examination I noticed that one leg was broken and a front tooth was out. I picked up the tooth and put it back in place and asked the young man to drive me to the hospital to have the bone set. The physician on duty requested that a can of ether be administered. My mouth seemed to open of its own volition, and a voice came out which spoke with authority: "Take the ether away. He does not need it." There was no protest. The ether was taken away, and the child slept peacefully while the bone was being set.
