Through the study of Christian Science I am becoming increasingly aware of the impersonal nature of the healing Christ. I should like to tell how this realization, revealed to me in a Christian Science lecture, brought about the instantaneous healing of a condition which several physicians had declared incurable.
As a young child I had never known what it was to be quite well. I had spent much time in my teens wondering why prayer could not heal the sick now as it had in Jesus' time. This query came to a culmination when I was in an explosion which occurred in a powder plant near the town where I was in school, killing and injuring many. It was evident that I had been severely injured, and physicians advanced many theories as to the exact nature of the injury.
Three years of pain and discouragement followed. Operations were performed; long periods were spent flat on my back. When coming out of unconsciousness in one hospital, I heard the specialist in charge say that due to a spinal injury I never would walk again. This pronouncement caused a nervous breakdown to be added to other diseases, namely prolapsus of the stomach and intestines, a heart condition, and exophthalmic goiter.
