GLIMPSES OF GOD AS DIVINE PRINCIPLE

From the December 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is understood that any article having God for its theme can give but mere glimpses of so vast a subject. One of the purposes of such a writing is to inspire the reader to further study and meditation upon some of the points presented. The use of the Concordances to the King James Version of the Bible and to all of the writings of Mary Baker Eddy will amply reward any earnest seeker for Truth.

Now let us ask ourselves: "Who but God Himself could have revealed His fundamental, all-inclusive, and eternal nature by the name of Principle? Who but a spiritual seer could interpret Bible passages scientifically and lift them to their spiritually correct significance?" Such a spiritual Seer and God-endowed interpreter of Scriptures was our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.

Of old, the nature of God has been likened to a rock. Moses was the first one to proclaim the nature of God by this name, declaring of the Most High (Deut. 32:4), "He is the Rock, his work is perfect." Later the Psalmist rejoiced that God was his rock, yes, his "strong rock," the rock of his salvation, the rock of his strength. Ending his immortal Sermon on the Mount, the master Christian admonished his followers (Matt. 7:24), "Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock."
