Poems

Instantaneous

From the December 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Christ rebuked the raging winds and waves
There followed a great calm. He caused to cease
Not only the strong wind, but its effect
Upon the sea. His "Peace, be still!" brought peace.

He did not still the wind and let the waves
Wear themselves out dashing on shore and ships.
The record states both wind and waves were stilled
The moment those calm words fell from his lips.

We need not wait for gradual return
To freedom, but may claim it instantly.
God's Word brings healing, joy, dominion, power;
His Word is Truth, and Truth known makes us free.
