Testimonies of Healing

From the December 1952 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The realization that all is mental, which grows clearer day by day to the student of Christian Science, brings into view wonderful revelations of God's great love and the recognition that healing is a mental experience, a rising above the ignorance of material sense into the enlightenment of pure spiritual sense. Jesus said (Matt. 5:8), "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us (Science and Health, p. 532), "Fear was the first manifestation of the error of material sense." I am deeply grateful for the gentle leading of divine Love, which has brought me out of the darkness of fear and enabled me to gain a glimpse of the light of God's kingdom.

I had been assured that committee work in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, would bring blessings, but I had not realized how deep and far-reaching these blessings could be. The work which I gratefully accepted resulted in the overcoming in a degree of a fear that had held me in bondage from early childhood, the fear of speaking before others.

Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." It was revealed to me that "unselfed love" means vastly more than human goodness; rather is it the fading out or dissolving of a sense of self separate from God and the rising into conscious at-one-ment with, or reflection of, pure Mind, which is God, divine Love.
